What is a Certified Gottman Therapist?
A Certified Gottman Therapist is an experienced therapist who has been extensively trained and demonstrated knowledge and competency in applying Gottman research-based interventions. Licensed therapists must attend three levels of training curriculum and participate in a clinical skills practicum under the direction of a Senior Gottman Therapist before they can apply for certification with The Gottman Institute. This process takes an average of 4-7 years. Working with a Gottman Couples Therapist assures you that you are working with someone who provides the highest quality couples therapy based on cutting edge scientific research focused on what makes relationships work.

What is Couples Counseling Consultation?
Couples counseling consultation is an essential practice for mental health professionals. It provides a structured environment where therapists can discuss challenging cases, share insights, and gain diverse perspectives on their work. This collaborative approach fosters a culture of continuous learning, professional development, and mutual support among practitioners.Clinical consultation helps in several ways:
-
Case Reflection: Therapists can present cases they find challenging, allowing for collective problem-solving and diverse viewpoints that may lead to new strategies or interventions.
-
Reduce Isolation: Working in isolation can be common in the mental health field. Consultation helps professionals feel connected to their peers, reducing feelings of loneliness and burnout.
-
Skill Enhancement: Participants can share techniques and modalities, leading to skill enhancement and the implementation of new approaches in clinical practice.
-
Accountability: Regular consultation encourage therapists to maintain high standards in their practice, as they know they will be discussing their cases and seeking feedback regularly.
-
Support for Decision-Making: Consultation provides a safe space to discuss ethical dilemmas and difficult decisions, ensuring that therapists feel confident and supported in their choices.
-
Emotional Support: The emotional weight of mental health work can be heavy. Consultation allows therapists to express their feelings about their work and receive validation and support from their colleagues.
-
Diversity of Perspectives: Engaging with a variety of backgrounds and experiences fosters a broader understanding of cultural competencies, which is crucial in serving diverse populations effectively.
